Recently, I purchased a portable Bluetooth speaker from Arctic fox, speaker is a general purpose Bluetooth speaker with battery back up. It can store around 100 songs and a joystick is provided to play, pause, select the song.
USB-C connector is provided for battery charging and song download.
The device is very simple, let me show you what is there inside. I got this from Amazon in ~550 INR. It comes with a standard packaging and a user manual.
They claim to be manufacturing in India.
I guess they are getting SKD/CKD and then doing rest of the process in India. I think good to start with, they can start designing also in India soon.
Currently the design looks 100% Chinese. I am not sure if they have got technology transfer or they just buy ready PCBs.

Clip is provided so that you can clip or hang it easily where ever you want.

Opening the enclosure is very easy, just use a small screw driver to remove the cover from side and it will come off. Then, there are two screws to open it further.

After opening, first thing you will see is Lithium battery, 3.7V, 400mAh Cell. Battery wires are directly soldered to the PCB to save cost.
On the PCB you can see marking HZX-280-SPK03_V1.3 and dated Dec 2023, looks like quite old design which is still in production.
And then comes Arctic Fox Logo ๐
Some test points DP, DM, these are USB interface. B+, B- for battery. Test points are mainly used in automated testing in production.

Very common to use mono Speaker, It uses 2W, 4 ohm speaker.
Serial Memory is used for storage. I was not able to find the datasheet of this IC.

Main Bluetooth Soc used is from a very popular Chinese company JieLi Bluetooth marked with JL, the part used is marked with AB23BP1R054. You can see a Bluetooth antenna traces on the PCB.

One Linear Battery charger IC is used, NS4054 (may be similar to TP4054). See image below.

One 8-pin SOIC package IC you see in the image below is HAA9811, it is basically an Audio amplifier.

Overall the circuit is very simple, one battery charger, Bluetooth controller, Serial Memory, Joystick Switch, Battery, Audio amplifier IC, Speaker, USB-C Connector, enclosure
I think the BOM is around 300 INR / 3.5USD

So, thatโs all in this teardown, I hope you found it interesting and learned something new. I will come back with another interesting blog soon.
I am running an Embedded Design House, CAPUF Embedded Pvt. Ltd, located in Bangalore, India. At CAPUF, we help companies build embedded products end-to-end with our hardware and firmware/software design services.
We also help in design optimizations for power consumption, cost, mass manufacturing, and performance.
30% – 40% is Flipkart Charges + GST + Marketing on Flipkart + Shipping + Companies independent performance Marketing.
30% is BOM
Price on Flipkart: Rs 999
So this leave roughly 30% profit.
Am I correct?
Or am I missing something?
