A couple of months back a potential customer came with a request to build the Rechargeable DC FAN in India. Complete product including plastics, electronics, packaging, etc. That’s when I did some study on the existing solutions available in the market to understand the price points and to know how easy or difficult it is to build something in India.
I purchased ARCTICOOL DC RECHARGABLE FAN to see what is inside. Posting it here so that you can also learn what goes inside a portable DC rechargeable FAN. We infact purchased many different designs like one with FAN speed/Battery charge display. One FAN was there which you can wear on the and had two FANs.

On amazon this DC FAN costs around 500-600 INR. Comes with a minimal packaging, USB cable for charging.
To manufacture this DC FAN, it will not cost more than 160-200 INR. As a general rule of thumb if you want to sell anything in bulk, your manufacturing cost should be around 1/3rd the selling cost. PCB will cost around 50-60 INR, Battery another 50 INR, rest will be plastics, motor, assembly, testing , packaging costs.

Box contains the DC FAN, USB Cable, Thread to wear in the neck, warranty card, one pager manual. This one is not manufactured in India and made in China as you can see on the pckaging.





FAN built quality is quite decent, good finish, wires, etc. are all good for this price range. Motor is driven by 5V at 1A at full speed.


Opening the FAN is not that difficult, just pull two plastic parts apart using a suitable small size screw driver.
After opening you can see a FAN, one PCB and a battery just below the PCB. Suitable connector is provided for both FAN and Battery unlike many devices I have seen where the wires are just soldered in order to save on the cost.



6 pin USB connector is used which contains power and CC pins, data pins are not exposed.

3.7V 2000mAH 18650 Cell is used for back up.

Main device which is used for the Battery charging and FAN control is LP78070F.
