SIMCom SIM800L, another very popular module of 2G Cellular connectivity era 🙂
It is always fascinating to see what is inside these modules, how do they build these modules.

For this I had ordered a small breakout board and then removed the module and then removed it’s RF Shield to see the inside.
And, look what you get inside.

The main processor used is a MediaTek MT6262MA, quite powerful processor. It has inbuilt FM receiver as well.
Other than GSM GPRS Processor the module uses a RF Chipset that is RF7198.
Qorvo’s RF7198 is a quad-band GSM850/GSM900/DCS1800/PCS1900 Tx module. The RF7198 is a complete high-power, high-efficiency transmit module for low-cost quad-band GSM/GPRS mobile handsets.
Power Amplifier, Power Controller and Switch functionality have been implemented on a single standard CMOS die.

That’s all in this teardown.
